My Father’s Oxygen Therapy

My father was on oxygen therapy for sleep apnea for quite a while and used an oxygen machine.  As a result, he had backup air tanks that were to be used in the event of a major power outage or disaster.  These tanks had oxygen flow meters on them to make sure that the air wasn’t forced out too fast and to help prevent leakage.

Now he uses a machine known as a CPAP machine.  This machine doesn’t appear to have any sort of air flow meter that I can determine, so I am assuming that the machine has something built in to determine flow measurement of the air being fed to him.

This machine is much more convenient than the old oxygen machine.  First, it is a small device not larger than an oversized clock radio.  Next, the mask goes over the face to provide better oxygen therapy than the old hose around the nose contraption.

One of the best things about the machine is the lack of need for oxygen tanks.  We came to discover that he didn’t really need the tanks as they were never used.  My father only used the oxygen when he was sleeping, so the tanks were unnecessary.
