Equipment in Document Imaging
Posted by TPS on 09/28/09 in Technology
Document imaging is a specific area of the field of information technology. It refers to all of the equipment and software solutions that are used to replicate images of documents used in businesses. Document imaging companies include everything from copy machine manufacturers to document management software providers.
Some of the most common equipment used in the document imaging sector of IT would be:
- Copiers. The easiest way to replicate a document is to copy it. It makes sense, then, that copy machines are a common piece of equipment in this field.
- Scanners. Scanners are also used to copy a document but the copied document can then be stored on a computer instead of just being yet another paper copy. This is the direction that the document imaging industry has been moving towards for years.
- Faxes. If you need to copy a document for someone else then one way to do that is to fax it to them.
- Software solutions. Increasingly we’re seeing a trend towards software solutions that create copies of all of a business’s documents for on-device or online storage.
The trend in document imaging, as you can see, is towards software solutions instead of hardware solutions. Nevertheless there remains a lot of equipment in this industry that is quite important even though it’s been around for some time.
