Mistakes I Made With My First House Plans

I’ve always been fairly stubborn which means that I’ve often learned things the hard way. That was precisely what happened when I made my first house plans. I made a series of mistakes that could have been avoided if I’d just taken the time to learn how to properly design and build a custom home.

Here are a few of the things that you can learn from my mistakes:

  • Think about the location of the home. I could have saved a lot of money if I’d used building materials that were local to my area.
  • Don’t forget garage floor plans. I completely forgot about the garage and had to deal with it halfway in to the building of the home.
  • Consider the decor of the home. The shape and style of the home I chose clashed with the decor I usually like.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of feng shui. Even if you don’t believe in the details, there’s something to the idea that the home should relate to the land around it.

Ultimately I ended up finding a way to be comfortable in my home but it took a series of re-designs and a decent chunk of time. Think through any house plans that you make in order to avoid these types of problems!
