Template Forum Etiquette

Whenever you participate in a forum online, you should make sure that you use the etiquette that is appropriate for the topic that you are discussing. This will vary from forum to forum because of the nature of the diverse topics that may be discussed.

Here are some basic rules of etiquette that apply to general web design forums such as a template forum or a forum for web design tutorials:

  • Be very clear in your writing. Not everyone on the site is going to know what you mean when using general phrases like "design modifications". Instead of using general language, try to be as clear and articulate as possible. This is true whether you are asking questions or getting responses. Try to write as though you are speaking to an average middle school student.
  • Be appropriate in directing people to outside links. Not everyone wants to know that your site has free templates for download. Use the site to give and receive information, not to spam people or be promotional.
  • Read the rules. Almost every forum has rules that are posted at the top of the general discussion board. Read the rules before posting even if it seems like a hassle to do so.

The main thing on a forum like this is not to write with a hyper-technical tone. Despite that it’s a computer-based forum, it’s designed for people who are average users. Keep that and some common sense in mind and you should be fine when interacting on forums like these.
