Traveling with Your CPAP Machine

I have been using a CPAP mask for more than three years now and don’t know how I ever lived without it. At this point, a good night’s sleep absolutely requires one of these beauties. So, as you can imagine, when I am traveling, I have a fair bit of trouble getting to sleep if I don’t have my machine with me. At one time, it would have been almost out of the question to carry around a bulky CPAP machine, but today, it is much easier – due to the lighter, more compact designs they come in. Here are a few quick tips I have learned in my travels:

Check and adjust the voltage of your machine if traveling overseas as different countries use different outlets.

Store the CPAP in a separate travel kit. You should have it stored separately, either checked or stowed by the flight attendant where it will not get broken.

Bring plenty of pure and distilled water for the humidifier if you have one. Remember to check the water in your luggage if flying.

Don’t forget the AC adaptor, spare fuses and extension cords. Also, charge your CPAP battery before you leave.

These are just a few quick tips I have picked up in my recent travels. Remember to always plan ahead and be ready for anything. If you lose or forget your sleep apnea machine, a perfectly good vacation can become uncomfortable very quickly.
