Pay Attention to your Growth and Development

As children, we are obsessed with our own bodies. We’re fascinated with the way that our fingers and toes move. We’re curious about how fast we can run and how high we can jump. Height growth and weight gain are causes for celebration.

But as we get older, we stop paying so much attention to our growth and development. When we aren’t growing taller anymore, it’s easy to overlook the changes that are taking place within our bodies. It’s also a huge mistake to do so.

Adults who continue to pay attention to the changes in their bodies over time are the ones who are most likely to remain healthy into old age. This is because they are the people who remain aware of important signs that could indicate something is going wrong with their health.

For example, an elderly adult who is losing inches of height may be suffering from osteoporosis. Figuring this out early on allows the individual to nip the problem in the bud and avoid serious injury. The adult who doesn’t even know how tall he is isn’t going to be able to engage in this type of prevention.

And it’s not just senior citizens who need to think about this. Young adults and middle-aged individuals should also take notice of their own bodies. Try to recapture some of that interest in yourself that you had as a little kid. It could be what saves your life someday!
