I met a few friends at the golf course we like to play every Thursday, but one of our regular group members could not make it. So we picked up a straggler that was there and looking for a group to play. He was pretty quiet, and didn’t say much, but we all knew he was good when he pounded that ball of the first tee. I thought I had crushed my ball, but his ball was still in the air when it past mine!

So it turned out to be a very typical Thursday for the three of us regulars. As always, we were all doubling up every time we could chase down the cute girl driving the beer cart. And as always, there were lots of off color jokes, lots of laughing, and no shortage of colorful language. The only difference this Thursday was the quiet stranger who was kicking our butts!

After yet another stunning display where he birdied a par five, I was compelled to ask him just how the heck he managed to get so good. Well, as I would have guessed, he started young. He played competitively in high school (again, no surprises there). But then the cat came out of the bag. Turns out our quiet stranger had gone to one of the golf colleges. I suppose it’s not really shenanigans that he had gone to one of those golf schools, but he could have maybe warned us that he was really good. The up side was that even though he wasn’t there to teach golf, he did give us all a few nice pointers towards the end of our round.
