Taking a Break Now and Then
Posted by TruProf on 05/31/09 in Entertainment
I work from home as a freelance writer, and while I love running my own business as much I do writing for a living, I sometimes find that it makes it difficult to ever get away from your work. Taking a break now and then is really important, and I think it’s easy to lose sight of this when you are self-employed.
For example, one way that I like to relax is by reading. I’ve always loved getting fully engrossed in a book without having to go do bed soon or feeling like I have something else to do. Recently I realized I needed a break from work, and took two whole glorious days where I did almost nothing but read. It was amazing, and when the two days were over I felt I was actually motivated to work again.
I also like to do something to physically relieve tension, such as visit our local hot springs — or, in lieu of that, take a hot bath with some heavenly-smelling bubblebath. As cheap as 2 person hot tubs are these days, that’s a luxury we can’t afford — yet!
What are the ways that you like to take a break from your business and relax? And when was the last time you actually did?

Ever since I started working as a freelance writer, I have not had much time to read. And when I finally did, it felt soooo good! Now I make it a point to read a book before I go to sleep every night. I try to read one chapter at the most.
Great post!

I usually watch a lot of comedy shows to make me laugh. It relaxes me. After watching a couple shows, I feel energized to work again.

I go out and walk. The bad thing about working at home is that you’re working at home. You’re not forced to go outside to go to an office. So I go out, walk and take in some sun.
Great post!

I take a break by cooking. It’s therapy for me. And it refreshes me.

I usually have a bubble bath with scented candles. It takes all the tension out. Or so I’d like to think.

Oh I would love to get a hot tub and get in there when I need a break. But I can’t afford it yet. So I just use our bathtub. That’s okay for now.
