Work Hard, Play Hard

When I was 19 and 20, I had a job that directly supported one of my hobbies: I worked at an auto parts store, which provided me with a discount on parts for my car. At the time I also lived at home, so most of the money I made I was able to put into my car. It was a memorable period of my life.
In order to truly enjoy your work, it’s helpful to do something that will help to support your hobbies. I’ve considered working in a bookstore to get a discount on books, for instance. I know a couple of guys who attend golf course management schools, hoping to get jobs in golf management or even the PGA so they can spend their career (and their free time and money!) on what they love. And of course, the best known example is the girl who works at her favorite clothing store so that she can get a discount on clothes — just like one of my best friends did.
Of course, having a job in the first place usually supports your hobbies because it gives you the money to pursue them. But getting a discount makes it even more affordable. What are your hobbies, and what creative methods have you found of supporting them?

I’m a college kid so my biggest hobby right now is having decent food to eat. The first job I got was at a pizza place and transferred to the location in my college town so I get free food whenever I’m broke!

Oh my god you totally took my idea! I work at my favorite clothing store and get great discounts there! I always have the newest fashions first and my friends are always jealous. I’m living the high life!

I’m a big gamer and have tried several times to get a job at a game store. Unfortunately the economy is keeping a lot of those places from hiring. But I’m gonna keep trying and a lot of the money I will make will go right back to the company!
