To Be or Not to Be (a Lawyer)

I remember my husband used to talk about going to law school when he finished his undergrad, and becoming a lawyer.  We talked about it a bit and after a while it became evident to me that the only reasons why he was considering it was 1) because a good friend of his, whom he respects quite a bit, was influencing him on the subject, and 2) because he was intrigued by the thought of making lots of money.

There are lots of good reasons to be a lawyer, but personally I don’t think that doing it just for the money is ever a good reason for doing anything — particularly if it’s not even your own idea.  However, if you are interested in being an attorney for the career, there are lots of opportunities, ripe for the picking.

For instance, there is a great market for Arizona mediation and divorce lawyers.  If you are interested in becoming a divorce lawyer, Scottsdale is a location you might consider — especially if you offer mediation services.  A lot of people don’t have the money for long, drawn-out legal battles in divorce court, so divorce mediation AZ is a very doable option.

There are other types of lawyers that are always in demand, which means great job security (as well as great pay): for instance, you can specialize in tax law, family law, or another area of law that corresponds with daily life.  But whatever kind of lawyer you decide you want to be, just make sure it’s for the right reasons — which means any reason that will enable you to stick with it over the long haul!
