Not My Idea of a Dream Position But They’re All Learning Experiences, Right?

I’m not going to say I have anything against a good old blue collar job. I like working with my hands as much as the next guy, but I hate the idea of spending my time doing something that has no bearing on what I truly want to do with my life. So, the summer I spent with Connecticut pool builders last year was not my idea of a great time. Of course, that’s not to say that the people I worked with were not decent guys. They were actually really cool to work with, but they were also extremely hard working and I have a bad habit of being in bad shape, so it was not going well for me from the start.

By the third week, the Hartford pool builders I was working with were already talking about shipping me off to the New Haven pool builders who would take on a slightly less “seasoned” worker – an apprentice, if you will. I always found it interesting that no matter where you work or talk to people, they always have another company or location that they can pass a worker off to when the fit isn’t just right.

Then end result – although I didn’t really like the summer job, I did learn a lot. And, I actually got in pretty good shape!
