Making the Leap into Self-Employment
Posted by TPS on 06/27/08 in Business

The majority of people who work a 9-5 job say that they love the idea of leaving that job and becoming self-employed. The majority of those people will also never make that leap because it’s just too scary to leave the security of the 9-5 job.
Here are some tips and ideas for making the bold move to become self-employed:
- Save up some money. It’s easier to leave a steady job when you have a back-up plan and some money in the bank.
- Make the transition with an established business. You could try telecommuting for your current company. Alternatively, choose an existing program like Net Trav or P1D from Synergy Marketing Group which has a network of support for you even though you’re working from home.
- Take small steps. You could work part-time and be self-employed part time to see if you even like working from home.
- Ask yourself what’s the worst that can happen. Often we fail to take actions because of fears that we have blown out of proportion. Consider what the worst thing is that will happen if your self-employment fails and ask yourself honestly if that’s something that you can handle.
Self-employment isn’t easy; it requires a little bit of bravery from the person who is about to embark on its path. However, it’s very rewarding and many people who choose to do it find that it’s not as hard as they thought once they get started.
