Though I turned out to be a pretty well rounded adult and business person, one of my fatal flaws is that I am a perfectionist.  This affects many aspects of my business and at times hinders our potential to succeed at a level beyond our current level of performance.  But I do know that it is a problem, so I am working on making it better.

I first realized that this was a problem when I decided that I was going to take care of the direct mail marketing aspect of our business on my own as well as my other responsibilities as the owner.  I wanted to make sure that everything worked out perfectly and was done how “I knew” that it should be done.

It was a big mistake.

In fact, I just about burnt out trying to compile our own direct mailing lists, and my wife asked me if there was an easier way to get the work done.  It was at that point that a light turned on in my head and I realized that I can’t do everything.

Now, I am trying to outsource some of our work, one piece at a time.  This has been a hard process, but I now know that it is the best decision for me and my business.
